That's what I got!
Let me walk through how I did it.
3 1/5 /9 = 16/x
Step 1: get rid of that messy mixed number:
16/5 /9 = 16/x
Step 2: get rid of the 9 by multiplying both sides of the '= by 9
16/5 = (16x9)/x
16/5 = 144/x
Step 3: multiply both sides by 5
16 = 720/x
Step4: multiply both sides by x
16x = 720; x= 720/ 16 = 45

Or, for the faster way, do the cross multiplication trick (if a/b = c/d, then (a*d) = (b*c) ))

(3 1/5) * (x) = (9x16) = 144
3.2x = 144
144/3.2 = 45

No the answser is 1/45.
If solving for x
3 1/5 /9 = 16x
16/5 /9 = 16x.... the compound fraction is
16/5 / 45/5 = 16x
solving for x = 1/45 and not 45.

that sounds right to me.....if you multiply all the top and bottom numbers, of the first part, by 5 you get the following (3X5=15 plus 1/5 of 5 =16 over 9X5 =45...) And the second part says 16/X.....yep, looks right to me.
