Can you use bluetooth to connect a PC to the internet?

I bought a new computer and I'm placing it in another room. I've used conventional USB wireless adapters before, but I saw that the bluetooth dongles were cheaper and was wondering whether they can be used to connect to the internet.

Would you connect to the internet regularly like you do with USB adapters, or do you have to do something differently? Is there any other special software I have to buy in addition to the dongle?

Please help!

Janet, you may want to familiarize yourself with what the difference is.
Most all computers have 56k modem, or Dial-UP
The Ethernet Port on computers allow you to connect either to DSL or CABLE.
Bluetooth enables you through the use of there software and Cell Phone to connect. (Bluetooth)
The use of USB Adapters are normally used when a computer is not equipped with a Ethernet Wireless Card.
Just a short heads up. USB Adapters have shown in there past performance to be fair at best. They are unreliable period. You are better off to use an Ethernet cable and connect direct rather than use an adapter.

nothing special to do so, but u might just have to buy an adapter like wireless.

But.... here comes the bad part

Bluetooth is full of security issues...so its ALOT easier to hack important info than it is just plain wireless, and Bluetooth also has a range of i belive around 30 or so feet.

best advice, so wireless router for internet, I use bluetooth for a cell to computer internet connection, but that's about it, i wouldn't trust it for a regular use in home connection

To use bluetooth for internet connectivity you'd need a dial up device to connect through. Most cell phones offer this today. All you have to do is install the driver for your cell phone and then you connect to the cell phone through the bluetooth adapter (after pairing them, of course). and presto, you're online.
