the English army was well dressed and very well trained. this worked to their advantage because they had more guns, better training, and better tactical movements.

HOWEVER, the Americans knew the territory better, and they used surprise attacks; something never before done in warfare.

Greatest advantage: Fighting here in our country and therefore forcing the Brits to have overseas supply lines.

Two disadvantages: 1. No real organized/established military. They had few and poorly equipped and trained soldiers
2. Lack of support on the home front. The war was controversial- many americans supported the Brits. Lack of poilitical support made paying soldiers difficult.

Top Ten Reasons Brits lost the Revolution:


French kept surrendering; Brits tied up taking prisoners;

British marched on the left of the road, Americans on the right; never made contact;

Too may tea breaks!

Cricket takes so long to play ( versus baseball ) most British troops never got into battle;

Reinforcements coming from Europe got lost in Bermuda Triangle;

Never got those Red Coats back from the cleaners.;

Stayed in towns, watching BBC America on cable and getting homesick;

Didn't have exact change for GW Bridge, Jersey Turnpike, etc...

4. No professional army until 1777 at Valley Forge
