I use a 2 cycle gas powered Ryobi which is a tough little weedeater. 31cc 17 inch cutting radius. 3 years old never a problem. Even when my son left it outside the entire first winter.

I prefer Stihl weedeaters, but both Echo and RedMax make good weedeaters too.

To find the right weed-eater for you, you will need to go to a few stores and do a dry run with a few different types. They make straight shaft and curved shaft styles. You need to check which one you feel comfortable with considering weight, balance and how easy it will be to start. I own an Echo straight shaft that works fine for me considering I do a lot of trimming. Try to look for a good name brand. If you don't have a lot to trim, you could also check out an electric model. I would stay away from the battery operated. I have heard only complaints from people that have owned them. Good luck.

Stay away from anything made by Poulan. I have used a Ryobi for years. It is a 4 cycle, you don't add oil to the gas. It has been a good machine. It is a bit heavy but it is a hard worker.

A goat. They'll eat anything.
Seriously, I wouldn't go with electric, stick with gas. I would get one with a bump and go head. And getting one long enough to use while standing up straight is a must or you'll kill your back.
