At 2 1/2 months, how many ounces did your baby take at each feeding and how many times per day?

OK, so I know "every baby is different", but I'm trying to get an idea of whether or not my son is eating too much. I didn't have any problems with my daughter, but I don't know what to do with my son.

He weighs right at 11.5 pounds (was 6 lbs 10 oz at birth) and the doctor isn't at all concerned. His "output" is normal, but he acts like he's hungry A LOT. Right now he's getting 5 ounces 7-8 times a day (35-40 oz in a 24 hour period). I know the general rule is 2-3 oz per pound of baby, but that puts us at 23-35 oz each day, and I feel like I'm feeding him too much. Is this normal???

My daughter is 12 weeks old and eats about 3-4 ounces every 1.5-2 hours. She weighed 6 pounds 8 oz at birth and at her 2 month checkup weighed in at 11 pounds 7 oz. It seems like I am always feeding her b/c it usually takes her about 30 minutes to finish her bottle and from then I usually only have an hour to an hour and a half before she is fussy for more food.

Does he spit up a lot after a feeding? If he seems hungry afterwards it may be a tummy ache from eating too much at once. If not, I'd say feed him what he wants to be fed.

He could be going through a growth spurt if this is a new thing for your baby to want to eat so much. I say rule of thumb, if your baby is hungry, feed him. If hes hungry, theres a reason. If its a growth spurt, he should mellow out after awhile. When my baby boy was 3 weeks old he was hungry ALL THE TIME. Im talking 4 ounces EVERY HOUR!. He grew a little and gained some weight and then after a couple of weeks he slowed down a little and wasnt hungry as often.

For him it is. As long as he's only eating when he's hungry and not when he wants comforted he's fine.

If you can distract him by putting him to sleep or by placing bright objects around him, and he becomes happy for a while, then he's not hungry, he's bored.

Also, he might be having quite the growth spurt.
