what should i look for if my sound isn't working?

on my computer, my sound stopped working and i can't figure it out.
everything is plugged in, even on m computer it says the sound is on all the way.

i have HP Pavillion Desktop.

Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, ok. Select Sound tab. If sound card and driver details are there, test it. If not there, you need to load the driver. It is usually in the driver CD that comes with the the PC. If CD is gone, download a copy from HP's website.
