In a series of Star Trek comic books published in the 1980s called The Trial of James T. Kirk there was a very interesting character introduced as potential love interest for Sulu, and then she vanished when Paramount demanded that there be no recurring characters in the comics that were not featured on the TV series.

Her name was Lieutenant M'yra: and she looked like a red-skinned antelope girl with long, curving antlers, and a tale.

I've searched high and low on the net for any reference to the name of her alien race or species, and so far haven't found anything. I know she appears in other TOS comics, I just don't have those.

Since she was created by Peter David, I'm guessing that somewhere he published some info on her species, if not in a comic then one of his novels, maybe.

Does anyone know to what species this very interesting little throw-away Trek character belongs ?
