Actually I would say neither I would just go with plain. But if you insist I would say cream cuz ive never had a jam doughnut.

My favorite donut as a child was the jelly filled granulated sugar outside yeast donut.
Nowadays, they make the jelly filled type, but instead of granulated sugar they use the sticky sloppy dipped liquid sugar...yek!
From time to time the Bavarian cream filled eclaires will treat my sugar craving. A bit on the overly sweet side...nonetheless, a twice a year tantalizing good treat.
