Will a Sonnet do?

O Mistress Mine by William Shakespeare

O Mistress mine, where are you roaming?
O, stay and hear; your true love's coming,
That can sing both high and low:
Trip no further, pretty sweeting;
Journeys end in lovers meeting,
Every wise man's son doth know.

What is love? 'Tis not hereafter;
Present mirth hath present laughter;
What's to come is still unsure:
In delay there lies not plenty;
Then, come kiss me, sweet and twenty,
Youth's a stuff will not endure.

If you're asking for critical essay type answers, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet are the faves. But so many people read Romeo and Juliet or A Midsummer Night's Dream, so a lot of people like those

Personally, I love A Midsummer Night's Dream, because it is a comedy and Shakespeare really knew how to show that what people think they want isn't always the case.

Othello is an excellent character study in one man's jealousy and feelings of inadequacy and touches on some topics like racism which are still pertinent today. I also like The Tempest for its anti-colonization subtext (i.e., seeing things sympathetically through the eyes of inhabitants of those countries who were subjugated by the British during that era) and by showing how knowledge is used to control those more ignorant, but can also enslave those who use it as well.

I really liked Hamlet, but if you're looking for plays for Shakespeare-- like as a very belated gift-- I can't think of anything right now. :)

by Shakespeare?? Most say "Hamlet", although, it isn't a personal favorite. Romantics would say "Romeo and Juliet". I also like "Antony and Cleopatra", but I think "Othello" is my favorite.
