a drop or two of bleach will be just fine. You don't want to add more than that though.
Good Luck

Some people think that a couple drops of bleach in the water helps to keep the bacteria down...it's not been proven.
You can use the aspirin, Sprite...they all work "o-kay".
You can also use Clear Solution available where you purchase flowers or just change the water daily. But the best way to make sure you get the longest amount of time out of your flowers is to cut them at an angel with a knife...never scissors...and change the water daily.

You would be way ahead to get a packet of the floral preservative that florists use. They will usually give you a packet if you ask when you buy flowers. This material contains a preservative that inhibits bacterial growth in the vase water. Bacteria block the xylem (tubes that carry water up the stem to the flower). It also contains a sugar to "feed" the flowers.
In a pinch you can pour some sprite or 7-up in the vase water. The also contain a preservative and plenty of sugar.

Just a drop or two of bleach helps to keep the water clean. It is also important to cut the ends of your flower stems with a sharp knife to open up the cells which draw the water up to the flower. If you continue to care for, and cut your flowers, they will last for more time (a week+).
