The answer depends on several things. The short answer is that replacing the compressor, compressor clutch, clutch coil and the receiver-dryer with factory replacement parts and having the system flushed out and recharged will cost about $1400.

However, the amount of work required to repair the air conditioning system may be less. The above is the "worst case scenario". These extensive repairs would only be necessary if the compressor had an internal failure that caused debris from inside the compressor to be passed through the entire refrigerant system.

I don't know if that's the case or not with your quote.
also, if you use non-Honda parts such as an aftermarket rebuilt compressor instead of the factory parts you could save a few hundred dollars. In addition, in many cases the repair facility quotes the replacement of the compressor clutch and coil as a 'cya' when those parts could be re-used. The compressor clutch and coil parts are about $200.

So, it depends on what has to be replaced versus what your being quoted and who's parts you use. The $1400 is about right if its honda parts and the worst case. You can get it done for about $900 by using non-honda parts and re-using the clutch and coil. Most shops make money selling parts so they will tell you that you have to replace the clutch and coil or they won't warranty the job. The Honda parts generally have a better warranty than the aftermarket parts. if the job is being done by someone other than a honda dealer, check to make sure their warranty includes labor-Honda's warranty does; often time non-Honda facilities will only guarentee the parts and you would have to pay the labor again.

hope that answers your question
