Obviously not, she needs sperm from a man. Even those with a low intelligence quotient understand that a human is 50% mother and 50% father... EQUAL parts (wow, equal, check that out). So should a woman go to prison for aborting 50% of his child? Isn't that equal? What about a man's choice for her to abort? Why isn't that equal?

I know why, because it's not a matter of EQUALITY, it's a matter of ethics. (Ethics are not about fair or equality, they are about what is right and wrong.)

But I'd like to see 'why' you think it's equal or not equal or do you agree that it's not about 'fair' it's about "ethics".

Oh, it's not that bad, women were designed for it. (I gave birth to a 10lb 5oz child...I'm still alive) Only women who are terrible mothers and too stupid to get another job ***** and complain that a beautiful newborn will 'ruin' their life.

Women who are awesome mothers and highly intelligent in their career field (can get another job anytime, anywhere) will tell you, "Having a child was the best thing that ever happened to me."

To the person who wrote Virgin Mary: if the Bible is correct, she had God's help, so she didn't do it herself.

It isn't "fair" when a man who wants to keep his child is unable to because the woman he knocked up doesn't want to keep the child, but let's look at this objectively, disregarding the whole "is abortion morally correct" issue: it isn't fair that a woman should be the one who has to grow the baby inside her womb. It isn't fair that men so often run off leaving a woman to raise a child on her own. It isn't fair that women were denied equal rights for thousands of years. It isn't fair that women are overwhelmingly the victims, rather than the perpetrators, of rape. In short, there's nothing fair about sex or reproduction. To quote a dead rapper, "Since a man can't make one, he has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one." I don't like abortion, but I'm still pro-choice. However, I don't think, as a man, that my opinion counts in this issue, since my body will never be affected.

At this point - the law does not give men any rights when it comes to the decision to abortions. No matter what he says to the pregnant woman ... at present ... it is 100% *her* decision and action to abort.

Yes, it should be 50% his decision as well... but in realty, it's not. ("Her body - her choice" is the statement I've heard banded about most often).

It's not at all fair... However, since the decision is legally 100% in HER court at this point... it would be her responsibility (if it were illegal and prison sentences were issued to mothers who aborted their children).

A man cannot "force" a woman to have an abortion - not really. However, a woman can "force" a man into parenthood and make him pay her child-support for the next 18 years... even when the child isn't his!!

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

With your reasoning: If you and I, husband and wife own a car jointly and I use that car to run over a couple of people would that make you liable as well? Don't be silly.

Secondly, women have the decision in the first place about whether or not there is going to be an abortion, men have to live with whatever decision they make. "It's my body, my choice" is what I always hear quoted. The act of getting her pregnant was 50% her and 50% him however getting pregnant and getting an abortion are two seperate issues. She made the descision to get an abortion and she has to deal with the consequences.

Lastly, Ducky you idiot, cloning would allow anyone male or female to have offsprings by themselves, there are incubator's after all and these ones don't whine or complain. =)

But in reality it is not at all an equitable split. A man's involvement can end after ejaculation - and he walks away.

A woman is designed for giving birth - but that does not make it any less risky. I almost died having my son from placental abruption. I have a friend who DID die from placental abruption - a bright intelligent physician DEAD from something you quanitfy as "not that bad".
A woman can stroke during labor. She can hemmorhage to death, she can become eclamptic, diabetic, suffer from HELLP syndrome, die from anesthesia complications during a C-section, suffer adhesions after a C-section, infection, bowel and bladder complications after delivery, die from amniotic emobli...want me to go on?

The man goes - grunt grunt - done. What are HIS potentially life threatening complications? ZERO!

Can I inject you with a potentially life threatening parasite and then tell you that you cannot do anything about the situation because I took the parasite from a man so if you get rid of it that's not "fair" because it is 50% his?

Grow up. I love kids, and I enjoy being a mother - but I do not believe any woman should carry a child she does not want to or is not prepared to carry. When two people consent to sex they both know the possible outcomes - and the man knows full well he cannot force a woman to remain pregnant if she doesn't want to.

Actually, neither a woman nor a man can go to prison for having an abortion today.

Were Roe V. Wade to be overturned, then women, men, doctirs, and anyone who is part of the health care provider system would be liable to sent to prsion for taking part in this medical procedure.

So would anyone that provided info or equipment for self abortions once the mother destroys herself.

It has to do with the fact that the woman has the ultimate choice in the matter. I was lucky and the woman who became pregnant from me chose to keep the baby, and we eventually married and now have 3 kids. Women have cried out for equality for years, they won the ability to make the choice to kill a baby, so they should pay for that choice. A man should be able to step in and prevent a woman from aborting his child, but that will never happen because women will cry out that itr is unfair to their "right" to "chose" what happens to their body. Even though, with a child it is no longer only "their" body, she begins to share her body with her baby.

things a father does not have to do (that a mother does)

give birth thus ripping appart her vagina while risking complications such as death.
breast feed.
get fat.
get morning sickness.
mood swings.
post pardon depression.
maternal leave from work.

things are NOT equal. man should not have nearly as much say. its her body. not ours. if i have a 'condition' where i will gain 50 pounds, throw up a lot, potentially die and lose the next 18 years of my life to child rearing, i am not going to listen to someone tell me not to do it if they don't have the same symptoms.

The question appears clever, but you're overlooking the fact that it's not about either parent, it's about the fetus/child, and whether or not it is a "person" under the Law. That determines whether or not the state can include it under their system of "homicide" statutes.
