The plot is about a Ronald Reagan obsessed serial killer who attacks a group of hippies heading to a weekend concert. The impression a person is under was that there were no Hippies by the 1980's. Were these Neo Hippies or was an assumption made that they were Hippies.

As a former hippie of the 60's (always preferred lovechild or flowerchild myself) I can assure you that there were still plenty of hippies around in the 80's. Unlike many other things it wasn't just a fad but a belief and way of life.

I live in England these days and know of over 20 large hippie colonies still going strongly in Britain alone. I would guess there are many more in the states.
