Ok, so the way i see it, people seem to have one of three attitudes towards life.
1st, theres those who realize how crappy the world is
2nd, those who believe the world is this completely wonderful place of flowers and butterflies
and 3rd, those who dont even think about how crappy the world is and just live blissfully ignorant without caring.
Well, i know life sucks like a mofo, and people are cruel and stupid and there is so much suffering and corruption in the world (most of it caused by us people). Now I can't just brainwash myself into thinking that the world is this perfect place with complete fairness and equality and morality and rationality and i cant just ignore how crappy the world and people are, so seriously, this world sucks and so do people, so how can you help but being depressed. I've been getting more and more depressed lately and i dont even know if i want to stop being depressed, because my only other option is becoming just another product of the system living tot

living totally oblivious to all the suffering and corruption around me.
How do you people out there maintain your sanity and keep from being depressed when there are so many depressing things about this life and human nature?

Im not depressed because my life is crappy, im depressed because i see all the suffering in the world. As much as i help the world, there will always be tons of suffering and whenever i realize suffering, i will be depressed. I dont want to be depressed, but what choice do i have? i cant help but being depressed when i realize suffering and since there is always suffering, i cant help but being depressed

It's true that many parts of the world isn't that great, I won't deny that. But there are many good things in life too, you can have your hobbies and friends and family. Another way to think about it is that YOU DON'T WANT TO BE DEAD. People may argue ablout after life but I'm not about to take chances. If you die, it may be permanant, eternal. I really do not like the idea of being nothing, thinking nothing and not knowing that I even am. It is like being asleep but not waking up. Do you know that when you are asleep, you dream but don't remember? If you died it would be like you are never there since you can't even remember that. I don't know for sure but it may turn out that you only have on chance at life - don't blow it.

I get your point. And the world, overall, is a pretty horrible place. But there are little things that are good in the world that make lives worth living.

Soo yes, if you really really think about it, the world is awful and we should all just give up on trying to fix it. But seriously, who wants to live their life like that? I'm not some super optimistic freak that thinks I can change the whole world, but if I can change just one little thing and make it a little bit better even for just one person, that will be enough. And now I sound like a really cheesey movie.

Honestly though, being depressed isn't going to help anything. So just try to live life to its fullest, knowing that you probably won't make that much of a difference, but you can still say that you didn't waste your time on earth sitting around crying in a corner.

okay. instead of complaining about how horrible the world is...CHANGE IT! if u dont like how people are polluting or fighting, or whatever, u need to do something about it! i mean, there is absolutely no use in just sitting around moping. get out there and help! and, living where we do, we are pretty fortunate! so why keep dwelling on the bad things in life, think about the great things! i mean, atleast we have a government that is not like a socialism or whatever. just stop thinking about the bad, and think about the good. u seem like the kind of person that could change the world! u have a very strong opinion, and that will help our environment! just get out there, and make a difference!

If you keep letting things hurt you so easily, it will lead your life to ruins. I used to be so depressed in high school because I wasn't accepted by people. Then, after giving myself some time to think, I realized that because I suffered from depression so much then, it would probably get worse for me in the future. That was when I pretty much changed my personality to a good extent. I don't care if people don't like me. It's the conditioning of society that causes people to find me disgusting or scary or whatever. They just don't get it, but I don't mind because it makes things more fun for me... (Although it would certainly help if society changed because some of the ideas and expectations they have are REALLY outdated in some cases.) People think that someday I'm going to snap and kill them, and that makes me happy. ^_^

Life is absoutely terrible when things aren't going your way. When things are, Life is going beautifully and this place is heaven. So it's important to recognize that the way life seems at the moment, is just your perspective of it due to your frame of mind, usually given by the inclination of what comes most naturally in those circumstances of the moment. (for example if someone yells hate at you, you'd feel not so good, bad, or angry as the most naturally inclination or reaction.) So if ever I felt bad, I'd be sure to recognize that feeling bad simply means "things arent' going my way right now", also that those types of things can be intended and changed. You can intend to feel better and you can intend to have things the way you want them to be. And if you stick with them and are steady and absolutely decide to live your way, it will. It can't be any other way, you're not giving it a choice. It's your life. What you must have you will get. And what you can live without you will, even if you want it. Many people want many things that they can live without but want, and then get their satisfaction on thosee topics simply by complaining about them rather than going to work to make things right for themselves. I wouldn't doubt if that was around 75% of society at this moment in time. But do what you've always done, get what you've always gotten. You want things different, INTEND differently and act on those intentions. You'll get it right when you stick with it. Make a choice. Make a Solid decision of what you will and must have, and won't you won't then, constantly keep that choice in every decision you make. You'll be surprised how smoothly things go as far as the way you feel about life after that. As you try it, You'll See.

You forgot one group of people: those who know they cannot live looking forever over their shoulder, and so we do what we must to live. God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. So I live my life with a purpose I have set for myself, and if some crazy man with a gun or a car gets me, he gets me. But in that case I know there are others who value life, liberty and justice enough to find and punish the offender. In the mean time, I don't have the time to be sad. But I once was sad--the chemicals in my brain were not in balance, and now I take anti-depressants. The drugs have not affected my thoughts on your subject, I always had them, but at least I'm not staring off into empty space with an empty mind, with tears rolling down my face--which they used to.

There are a lot of things in this world that can drive people crazy, including people that are rude or people that are perfectly happy with themselves and their lives. You have to put yourself out there and be nice and try to be the best person you can be, and good people, not perfect people but good people, will soon find themselves with you. Believe me, I know from experience that if you have a bad attitude people will push you away. And Life isn't all bad, it is actually wonderful. You have to discover it yourself, you are the only one that can change it to make you happy.

I guess you can just accept the way things are or try to find the good in certain situations.
Things are pretty bad these days, but there are people who are probably worse off than you. I think you would feel better if you tried to help others have a better life, and in turn your life will be better.

I know it exists and it is all that you said it is,
big deal.
Life is short,
don't worry about the stuff you have no control over.
It's just life...We all deal with it.
And so what, if you are depressed.
You are alive!
That should count for something.
You can think,
you are not in a vegetable state in some hospital.
You can laugh, smile, cry, hurt.
You have feelings!
Apparently, you have access to a computer.
You probably have food in your house.
You are probably not a star in Kiddie Porn.
So why be depressed.
You are alive,
just be thankful for what you do have.

I agree there are lots of reasons to be depressed but you know what, I'm not.

You should spend more time looking for the good in life and believe me there's lots of it about but you won't find it on the late night news or generally in international politics or suchlike.

You'll find the good in and between the people you know and the simple experiences that life presents to you. Concentrate on the little picture.. it's all rosy there
