my girlfriends aunt used to order us ciggarettes online and she said she wont order anymore cuz if they catch you you have to pay taxes on each carton you buy. is that true or was she just saying that so she didnt order us anymore. ( serious answers only no you should quit smoking answers)

Every state has very different rules on the taxes they charge on cigarettes. In Washington, the taxes are very high and if the state discovers you importing them, they will charge you the taxes on them.

On the other hand, it is very hard (if not impossible) for the state to discover that you are indeed importing cigarettes.

when your order many things on line - you may have to pay taxes ( it depends).
and yes cigarettes have a tax on them --whether on line or at the corner store --there are always tax.
is it illegal ? NO, unless you are under the age of 18.

Don't think it's illegal, but Michigan justed nailed some it's citizens for unpaid taxes -- buyer beware.
