This same question was asked in the past by the gentleman who set the worlds record for the fastest recorded traffic ticket at just over 243 miles per hour on I-10 in west Texas. He was driving a Konigsegg CDX at the time. The trip took him considerably less than the average 22 hours until he met the DPS in west Texas.

So have a nice trip but drive safe. Take the 22 hours, and if you decide to stop around the Phoenix area. Stay in and see Scottsdale, AZ it is much nicer. Overall it is a nice trip. But I'd rather fly.

It is about 1350 miles for me that is a two day trip but I could do it easier in three, as this is about 26 hours driving time. I don't break the speed limits. I agree with Lalana stop along the way and make a vacation out of the travel, if and when you come back try to route it a little bit different and again enjoy the trip and sights along the way.

We did this two years ago and had a blast. But we stopped in several little towns on the way and took photos and really vacationed. The longest amount of time is getting through Texas. Then, it's a bit quicker. If you drive straight through, you'll miss part of the fun. Take it easy and stay overnight and take 2 days a least.

I would say the trip is at least 2 days of steady driving. You can start on IH 10 and eventually it will change into IH 5. It is a long drive and it will take at least 9 hours to get out of the state of Texas.

It took me 28 hours back in 1988. Note that speed limits were lower (65 on I-10... I had the cruise on 70). I left Fullerton at 7AM, stopped in Palm Springs for breakfast (at Dennys, yet), stopped in Phoenix for a late lunch. I only stopped for gas and LA MIGRA until I got to Fort Stockton, where I loaded up on coffee and doughnuts. I had to fill up about every 300 miles because that Camaro got awful mileage.

Nothing says "middle of nowhere" like peeing along the side of an empty interstate while Art Bell is cranked up on the radio.

It took me 2 days. That's driving about 12 to 13 hours per day. I took I-10

Go 140 mph down every highway, run stop lights, and weave in and out of traffic...just kidding

According to Google Earth

1,353 mi – about 18 hours 51 mins

Really, it's one straight hi-way from LA to San Antonio...I-10.
I follwed my parents to and from LA last summer. On the way back we stopped in Phoenix and stayed overnight...left Phoenix at 4:00AM and arrived in Las Cruses at about 11:PM and stayed overnight again..explorered and ate lunch and dinner. The final drive from Las Cruses to San Antonio is the longest 8 Hours and 595 miles. Left Las Cruses at 6:AM and arrived in San Antonio at 12:PM..(The times are approximate)

It's a really beautiful drive through Arizona and New Mexico.

Keep in mind, Texas is huge it takes a while to get out from San Antonio, so it takes a while to get to San Antonio once you pass the border of Texas and New Mexico.

Enjoy your trip

Well it takes anywhere from 16-20 hours depending. I have done the drive a few times taking I-10 all the way. I stopped in El Paso for a break. It seems like it takes longer to get from El Paso to San An than it did from LA to El Paso. If you are a fellow Californian moving out here then welcome but can u hook me up with a double double with grilled onion and cheese Please. Good Luck

With an occasional bathroom and food break, assuming your driving about 65mph....about 22-24 hours of solid driving. 1356 miles from downtown to downtown.
