My father passed away fourteen years ago. My Mother passed last December. When I went back to New York to bury her I went back to the cemetery the next day and sat on their headstone and had a nice long talk with both of them.
This time I got in the last word. It was very cathartic.

Almost a year ago, as i sat with him as he died, and for a couple of hours after.
9 days until the first anniversary of his death.
Seems like yesterday, i folded his arms and tried to close his mouth and eyelids.
And kissed and hugged him for the very last time.
Death is the ultimate finality .

I just saw my dad 2 days ago. Went to visit my parents over the weekend and had dinner at their house.

May 2, 1985, when we placed him in his burial plot. Some days it feels like yesterday, others it seems forever. I see his picture every day and always think of him.

December 1990 he and my mum visited me in Cape Town. He died the in February 1991 of a heart attack so the last time I saw him was in the funeral home just before his funeral.
