Interesting question! Even more interesting is if legalizing it DID lower cigarette usage, would the government then turn around and tout it as a way method to quit smoking cigarettes? I can just imagine the TV ads now...

I honestly don't know even a tentative answer to this question. I wonder if there's been any research in this field... oh yeah, I almost forgot... Research with marijuana is severely restricted because of its ridiculous Schedule I "dangerous drug" classification. So the world may never know.

Ho, hum... When will things change?

Not really, overall people seem to smoke fewer cigarettes
But I live in Amsterdam city center and I have been for over 25
years now, somehow the (semi) legalization of marijuana hasn't
affected tobacco sales......Though people might start smoking
more weed and alternate, but they're different products with
different effects and we treat them that way generally over here.

I don't think cigarette sales would be greatly affected. I mean if people wanted to smoke marijuana when it's not legal, then they are gonna do it either way. legalizing weed would just mean people could do it more openly. For instance, i smoke cigarettes and even if weed was legalized, I still wouldn't smoke it. It really just depends on what people are doing now.

NAW, Mary jane will always be popular
with more Young people,or older users.Believe me,the smoke and tobacco compani's will sell a lot of it.
Sure people would try it,some might like it.but the laws won't change.

It might increase marijuana smoking but for the cigarrette crowd anything would be nominal. I have a 73 yr. old Father that smokes but I don't think he would EVER start getting high...

I think it would.

People like to be the first one in everything, I haven't tried it, but I would be curious, I stopped smoking a year ago... I'm going to Amsterdam in November, even thought I stopped smoking I will try mariguana once I'm there... I'll keep you posted, hopefully I'll come back safe... hehehe

It would be regulated so you could be assured of getting quality stuff. The price would also go down as a result. About the crimes that would be committed is that someone might raid your fridge or take your cupcakes.

I don't think so. I think people would treat it more like alcohol, and you can't drink at work or when driving, etc. So people would still be smoking tobacco most of the time.

I think the cigarettes companies would be the ones that would be put in charge of manufacturing the weed.
