Chemistry question...My instructor said that all we need to know is Latin, which I obviously don't.

Francium - named for France

Well, without being well-versed in Latin, both Yttrium (Y, 39) and Ytterbium (Yb, 70) are both named after a small village in Sweden, Ytterby.

Most of the first elements discovered were named for Greek words, several were named for colors, but the answer he might be looking for is that of Radon and Radium, the first of which was named for the second.

Mercury. The symbol Hg comes from the latin hydrargyrum which means "liquid silver". A lot of times, mercury is refered to as quick silver.

Phosphorous means "light bearing" and Radium comes from "ray of light", both references to these elements producing light . . .
