If you get hit in the back and the car gets shoved forward the engine can get shoved backwards, so it is conceivable this could cause a leak somewhere. The insurance company is saying no just to throw you off, hoping you will accept that answer and just go away. Ask a real mechanic, not an insurance company. The insurance company is your enemy..

Yes, it can cause engine damage. Mainly due to the impact of the collision twisting the frame and body of the car, you might now think it does but in a collision all of the impact has to go somewhere, and most of the time damage impacts the drivetrain components of the vehicle because of the weight of the engine and transmission the shifting of the vehicle parts during a collision will destroy seals, bearings, and sometimes depending on the impact can actually jam the transmission and/or engine.
Depending on the fluid that is leaking it could be from a broken oil or transmission cooler line, a loose or broken oil filter and/or housing.
Get the vehicle checked out by a reputable mechanic.

the impact could have knocked something loose, but generally will not do this. if its leaking now, it would have likely started on its own anyway.
the exception is if it is a rear wheel drive car and the rear differential was pushed forward a few inches, but if it were that bad of an accident, your car would be totaled.
update:
just read the other answers,
I have been in many collisions, and if there were problems with the engine in a place where I was not hit, it was because something else was broken before, like an engine mount or a cracking oil line.
but, getting it checked out will tell you for sure
good luck.

Dont assume that they wont believe you. Your coverage business enterprise could do a by way of inspection of your automobile and notice what the situation is with the engine. they are going to be waiting to diagnose this situation and notice if it may probably be accident appropriate- they comprehend that injury can sometimes commute throughout the automobile. Now, in the event that they do locate it somewhat is a few thing that's not accident appropriate (your automobile is a 2002- its getting previous and could start to have placed on and tear issues) dont be a jerk approximately it and insist they restoration it. only ask them to envision it out and notice if its appropriate and clarify to you why it somewhat is or isn't. There not attempting to screw you over right here. people like the dude approximately only have a chip on their shoulder. coverage companies dont sit down around all day plotting the thank you to get out of paying for damages they owe- they simply cant pay extra then they owe. You cant only "call for" they pay it like the guy says above.. you may locate if it may probably be appropriate.
