Yes. I didn't even have the day off which shows how pointless it is.

Hey, anytime I get a paid day off is not pointless! I see what you are saying, but most "holidays" are just commercial exploitations anyway. I don't see the point to most of them, but I enjoy celebrating and having time off, so I go with the flow.

Yes especially since Columbus really didn't discover America. In fact he never stepped foot on American soil. So I agree...pointless.

In my opinion it is pointless in a way because we didn't get a day out of school but then again we don't even have off on my birthday and that IS NOT pointless...quite meaningful I should say lol

I would have to say that it is because he is credited with discovering America and now we know the Vikings were probably here before him and what about all the indigenous population that settled here thousands of year ago. But it gives federal emploees another 3 day weekend.

This one. I would support getting rid of Columbus day in favor of Juan Ponce de Leon day, in honor of the first European to set foot on US soil.

Yes - stupid high school students are running around everywhere..i had classes still and i'm in college so they should have been too.

Kind of. I'm mexican so i'm not from europe so I would probably be in U.S. and even if I wan't here, I would still be happy in mexico.
Though, I do think we shouldn't have school this day. ( :
