Many cars can do this. The commercial you saw was for the Nissan Versa. Other cars that can go over 500 miles on a tank are Honda Fit, Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris, Nissan Sentra, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Chevy Aveo, Most hybrids like the Civic, Prius, Insight, and Camry. The diesel Volkswagon Golf.
Any car that gets better than 34mpg highway could go 500 miles without filling up for gas. It depends on how you drive.

If you mean 500 miles per gallon (mpg), there isn't any production car that can do that... yet.
However, if you mean 500 miles per full tank of gasoline, that's easy.
I get 500 miles per tank of gas in my '07 Toyota Prius. Averaging 50 mpg on a full tank fillup of 11 gallons of 87 Octane regular.

ANY car can do that if the tank is big enough. I had a Chrysler Imperial with a 45 gallon tank. I could get about 475 miles off of a full tank on the highway, but neither of us could afford to drive that nowadays....

I used to have a '87 Chevy Sprint, 3 cylinder, made by Suzuki, that would get 50 MPG all day long. A 10 gallon tank =500MPTank
I shoulda kept that little gas saver.

none but there is a company our of italy that has created a car that runs off of compressed air with a ultra lite body that has a top speed of 60 and can get 500 miles to a tank of air. and there working on making a compressor that can recharge the air tank so theoretically youd never have to stop to fill up.

The commercial you are referring to is the Toyota Camry commercial.
They're great cars, and they are very likely to get the mileage the commercial says given the right driving conditions.
I had a 1993 Ford Tempo that I averaged 42MPG in constantly in a mix of city and highway driving.

The answers above are correct with 115 gallons of gas will be used. Remember once you compare the ticket price with the price of gas to factor in your time. The time it takes to drive 2300 miles vs flying 2300 miles might be worth the extra money (depending on the price). Just some food for thought.

500 miles per tank isn't THAT crazy. my old 91 Honda Accord could get 440 miles to a tank. I bet the Honda Insight could do it although it is no longer in production.

If you have a big enough fuel tank, any vehicle could do that. My 18 wheeler can go 1400 miles on a tank, but it holds 200 gallons.

Not possible. Maybe an electric car? Or maybe the tank holds 500 gallon....
