Interesting Question --- especially when you say "nature"

For many years now, most accounting was of a compliance nature. You kept books to compute taxes, report to stockholders and regulatory bodies and others.... you were just a scorekeeper, and sadly part of the Overhead cost to the company. Things are changing!

Now the best accountants are the ones who use their talent (accounting and other) to ferret out ways the company can better employ their Land, Labour and Capital to make more money, expand markets, and improve the world they live in.

In my last two accounting jobs, I got the job because I promised to find a way to improve profits by twice what i was asking in salary in one years time, or my fee would be zero. I ain't got a zero yet.

good luck

It will be much the same. Accounting principals are slow to change. The only big thing that could happen would be a change to tax law.
