In addition to the two correct answers you already have, it is important to know that there are two types of GRE exam -- the general exam and the subject tests. The general exam is most like the GMAT. The subject tests cover very specific areas, such as math, physics, etc., in great depth. Ph.d programs sometimes require the subject tests for admission.

The GRE is the Graduate Record Exam, which is used for the majority of graduate programs. The GMAT, which contains more math, is specifically for the MBA. Other professional schools also have their own entrance exams, like the MCAT for medical school and the LSAT for law school.
