Suite for Solo Cello No. 1 in G Major is pretty famous...it has been performed by Yo Yo Ma, and was in the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World with Russell Crowe.

I agree that it's probably the prelude.....
Bach's VI Suites for the Violoncello (cello)- the Prelude (in G major from suite I) is used ALL the time on commercials. I've heard heard it on ringtones, etc., too. Very famous. And, yes, it's just a solo cello, no accompaniment.

I knew it as "the duh-duh-duh-di-duh-duh-duh-duh cello song at that one commercial" before I knew its real name:)

You can hear it here: http://www.emusic.com/album/Maria-Kliegel-BACH-JS-Complete-Cello-Suites-Nos-1-6-BWV-1007-MP3-Download/10874738.html
It's the first one on the list :) It's the part that's less familiar if you listen to the tidbit of the song but I'm sure you can find it somewhere else to hear the beginning......like if you buy from eMusic or iTunes, you know.

Try YouTube to find one to listen to for free...

Also try this site: http://www.classiccat.net/bach_js/1007.htm
Hope this helps!:)

Most famous cello solo is Bach's first cello suite. The first movement, Prelude.
