Are you scared to talk about it because you have already had your period? Is something wrong with your period? Do you have a specific question on how it is suppose to be?
Just start off by telling her you would like to talk to her about a private thing. Tell her you are scared or worried or whatever it is that bothers you, or you are curious about it. Your mother knows about them as she is a woman too. What a better person than her to start asking questions. If something is wrong, she can take you to the doctor. You should get a regular pap smear every year. Don't be afraid to talk to your mother. She knows you the best.

Sit your mom down and say that you have recently been getting bad stomach cramps and might need to or have needed to get certain things from the shop for them if she doesn't get the hint tell her you think your monthly girly time has started i don't see why you should be scared its not something you could prevent she should be fine about it if shes one of those people that just say 'oh i see' and walk away then shes a prudy person and you will just have to search the net and talk to your closesed freind or sister about it or even the nurse or school nurse they are always more than happy to speak to you about any of your questions or needs in any of these more unspoken areas best of luck :) welcome to womenhood

You don't need to be scared to talk to her. She is the first person you should seek advice from when it comes to such issues. Well, she might not be too willing about it, but you can find it out only if you try. She (and her mother) has gone through it herself, so this is not a totally new matter for her. I can understand if your Dad might be a little uncomfortable about it, though.
If all of this does not work out, seek advice from your GP doctor. They won't make fun of you or tell anyone else about it.

Did you start yet? If so, just tell her you want to talk in private. Tell her when you started. Do you need help about what to do? Ask her.
HERE is some advice from my 12 yr old daughter (she just started her 2 months ago and is standing behind me reading the question):
"Tell your mom. I thought it ould be embarrassing like a big deal, but it really wasn't. It's better to know WHAT to do than NOT what to do. It will be OK!"

Ask your mom if you can speak with her about your period and she will help you right away because she went through the same thing as a young woman. Moms and family are forever.

Just say, OK Mom, it is time for you to tell me about grown up woman stuff. That will scare her silly because she will think you are talking about sex. Then, just open up about what you need to know, or what problems you are having. If she is reluctant to talk to you , then look it up on line. There is lots of good info. Many girls go to their school nurse for help, too.

There is absolutely no reason why you should feel awkward talking to her about your period. She's a woman, and chances are, in her many years of menstruating, she's probably experienced EVERYTHING you're experiencing right now (and then some). Just be straightforward with her about what's bothering you. Chances are, she'll understand.

Don't be scared. You're just growing up, and your mom will understand. Just tell her. Save being scared for the first time you DON'T get your period.
