Babies under the age of 6 months should be receiving most, if not all, of their nutrition only from breast milk (or formula). Until 6 months, solid foods are only for supplementation. Some doctors OK babies to begin solids 4-6 months, but waiting until 6 months to introduce solids is the current recommendation. The vitamins and nutrients in breast milk are important for growth and development. Too much solids at this young age don't leave enough room for adequate amounts of breast milk. If your doctor has said you can begin solid introduction, there is no rush to do so. A little cereal once a day (around dinner time is a good time) is plenty until closer to 6 months and then you can gradually add another solid feeding and other food choices.

I have a 4 1/2 month old and she gets zero solids yet. Every family and baby is different but a 4 month old really should get very little from solids if any at all. Breast milk and formula should make up most of the diet.

You should not be feeding your baby solid food until at least 5 months. Also, even if your baby is at least 5 months old, you should only feed him 2 meals of solid food a day. Each meal should only consists a couple spoonfuls (baby spoons). Your baby is not old enough to know how to digest and he might choke.

I gave him none and I won't be giving him any until he reaches 6 months of age. And then it will be only once a day in the morning.

I breastfeed my baby and was told by my pediatrician not to mix feed him until he was 6 mos old. They say it will boost his immune system.
