I had a miscarriage in June and am now pregnant and 13 weeks pregnant. I recently rented a digital fetal monitor and love it because I can hear my baby's heart beat and get the rate each day. After reading some things, I'm wondering if this is safe to use each day. Most of the literature out there says it is, but then people on here say it's like a helicopter hoovering over the baby. Anyone know the truth about this? Thanks!

Since the late 1950's ultrasound technology has been used in Obstetrics/Gynecology with no evidence of any ill effect. That includes fetal dopplers, which are perfectly safe.

However, that doesn't mean you should monitor your baby for hours every day, 7 days a week. Moderation in all things is the key.

When using a fetal Doppler each exam should take no longer than 7-10 minutes 2-3 times weekly maximum.

look at it like this; if by some reason you had to go to the doctor everyday they would listen for the heart beat unless you were very early in pregnancy like before 12 weeks
