The holes in electrical sockets are designed to be too small to put a finger in and the live contacts are spaced some way back.
The exception to this is the bayonet cap light socket, were both terminals are exposed. These are dangerous and should have been outlawed years ago.

I did that when i was 9. I was very much a cause and effect child that would always think 'I wonder what would happen if i did this'. As for putting my finger in the socket, it wasn't earthed and i blew the trip switches ... i never did it again.

I think he has been having you on perhaps he did it deliberately, unless he put them into a light bulb fitting while there was no bulb fitted, this can happen if you're careless. It would be difficult to get an adult's fingers into a normal power socket & virtually impossible with a UK socket.

Sounds like just a normal 22 year old to me. Just a bit more down to earth than usual!!!

I guess it all depends on how old he is. Most older kids will do stunts like that to show off to their friends and make them laugh. If he is younger, like 5 or less, it just might be plain curiosity. I'm told i use to do the same when I was just a little kid.

he must have very small fingers.also the sockets have a safety feature to stop things being pushed into the live and neutral holes unless it is a 3 pin plug (uk)

How old is he? If he is 2 or 3 he doesn't know any better. If he is 14 he is a Darwin award candidate and a moron.

He is most likely to be curios. He ( in modern UK sockets ) is not likely to get a shock but don't take a chance, keep him away!!

Sounds like he's a thrill seeker!! Not a smart thing to do!! I bet he won't do it again!! I did it when I was a little child and I learned my lesson very well !! It hurt like h*ll!!

I think he needs to be told it is wrong, get those safety plug covers. How old is your son by the way, is he old enough to know better?
