1)we need windows 2000 server(sp1 or later)
2)can be installed on member server or domain controller but requires Active directory.
what is the second point denotes us?
can anyone explain me please??

Windows 2000 Server should be on SP4, anything less is not recommended.

To install Exchange 2000, you will need a DC with AD for it to function as its designed for. once you have that done, you should have a stable platform for emails.

you must be running an active directory environment. Install AD on a server that you want to be a domain controller. Exchange can then go on a member server or a dc.
