What's happening to our freedom of and from religion guaranteed by the Constitution?

To Elway: he did it during a political speech to a mega church group in the south. His speech was yesterday or the day before.

It's not an unusual thing for a member of a church to ask. It's more of a general plea to God to give him the guidance to live his life correctly and make the right decisions. Did he do this in a political speech or at a church service? If it's something between him and his church that's no reflection on Constitutional principles. If he did this during a political speech it would be improper in my opinion and a very unusual thing for a Democrat to do.

EDIT: Thank you for providing the context. I do think that he should refrain from saying such things while giving political speeches. I think he's trying to find any avenue he can to appeal to those who don't like Hillary, especially in the South.
It almost sounds sort of desperate and is not a usual thing for a Democrat to do in a political speech - which may be exactly why he's doing it. Another factor may be that he's trying to negate the perception by some people that he used to be a Muslim by being loudly Christian in public. I think either reason isn't a very good one. Those who insist on believing that he's secretly a Muslim are never going to vote for him anyway, and this is not the way to catch up with Hillary's rising support. This isn't a good tactic. Democrats prefer that their candidates keep their religion at home and in church where it belongs.

Barack Obama should be able to answer that one for you. He is after all a constitutional lawyer. Or at least supposed to be. Though i will not ridicule him on his decision. For i believe in God as well. But god and him are the only ones that could have the discussion he wishes to seek. Not a church.

I understand how you might find that freaky if you aren't religious, but it's actually a common phrase in many churches. What he's really asking, is that the people of the church pray that God helps him make good and just decisions. It's not necessarily a Joan-of-Arc style literal conversation with God, just a request for general wisdom.

Considering Bush has said God speaks to him, I think they all need a lesson in humility.

Look, Moses was deep with the ten commandments. He was an instrument of god with what we could not understand such as the parting of the ocean.......
This issue of God disturbs me. If politically it is an analogy that concerns the War in the Middle East then the aim is appropriate... His portfolio is adept with training and expereince to target this audience religiously. We speak of "Allah" through the Muslims and we hear of God in English ,
My point is who are his voters? and if we are all listeners to prime candidates for President then it is a freedom to speak to your audiences....Preaching and Sermons affect the belief of an emotional soul.... It makes me wonder the immigration issues we face in this country where the issue of GOD becomes a crisis to reach the soul politcally.
