I just bought a new dell desktop tower. It did not come with a monitor and I was wondering if I can use my tv (HDTV 720i, it has VGA, HDMI, and S video connections) ? Is there any difference in the quality if I were to use the VGA instead of HDMI or S video since they are already being used?

Yes you can do this.

What connectors does your system have?

You will get the best image from a DVI to HDMI connection.

However, since your HDMI port is in use, the next best is the VGA connector. You should be able to get a HD resolution out of that with a good image. Your system will almost definitely have VGA output.

S-Video is definitely the worse choice. Even if your system has S-Video out, it is limited to 480i, so it will produce a poor image at best.

Edit.
Long VGA cable can produce problems, but sitting too close to a big TV can be awkward. If this is a problem for you, consider putting the system close to the TV but getting a wireless keyboard and mouse, so you can sit where it is comfortable viewing the screen.

Yes if you're TV has a VGA input you can just run a vga cable from your computer to your TV. VGA or HDMI should look about the same. S-Video won't quite look as good.

I have a commador 64, and I can hook it up to my t.v. But then again, my C64 is also 20 years old!
