I was told teh same thing, although I just prefer to eat a balanced diet and go without them. The bottle says that because according to FDA regulations it HAS to. If you look at a bottle of vitamins marketing AS prenatals they have the same "warning".

I take 2 flintstones chewables a day, they are so much easier to take and taste better.
Always check with your doctor before doing anything, but if your prenatal vitamins are making you very sick, try not taking them for a day or 2 until your doctor returns, or ask an on-call doctor.
The main thing you need with prenatals is iron and folic acid, both of which are in childrens vitamins, just not enough, when you take 2, you will be taking the right amount of folic acid and iron.

Yes, I am doing that. I'm 5.5 weeks and the first week I took the prescribed prenatal vitamins I was throwing them up all the time. My OB said to take 2 childrens vitamins and that's what I've been doing and I feel much better.

That's exactly what my doctor told me. I was SOOO sick in the beginning....lost almost 20 pounds. When I switched from prenatals to 3 flintstones vitamins a day it helped tremendously with my sickness, as well as with my constipation. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, congrats on the baby and I wish you a safe and healthy delivery!

I have 4 beautiful children, oldest is 5 years old, youngest is 5 months old. I took 2 Flintstones vitamins with each pregancy and afterward (still now). My first doctor told me to-she said it was fine, since I could not tolerate prenatals at all. Good luck! If you eat a balance diet you get enough folic acid since all flour and bread products are enriched with folic acid, in fact it is now suggested that the high intake of folic acid may cause certain genes to be activated, resulting in higher incidence of autism, so too much of a good thing is not good either. The Flintstones are fine. ** I get a thumbs down from someone with no children? Ha!

You don't have to take prenatal vitamins at all - even a decade ago they were unheard of, all pregnant women were advised was to take folic acid, and you can get that by eating green leafy vegetables and fortified bread or cereal.
I would just eat the healthiest diet you can manage, and talk to your doctor when he gets back.

I have known people who took children's vitamins in place of prenatals, but I would still talk to the doctor about it. Is there no one in his office? The nurse could probably answer your question. Also, my sister had problems taking the prenatals and she found that it helped if she ate before she took them. I never had any problem with them, but I always ate before I took them on my sister's advise.

I've heard of this, but didn't do it myself. I take my vitamins at night, right before I fall asleep, and I am okay. If I took them in the morning I would be sick! I would suggest calling another OB and asking a nurse on staff if that would be alright. Good luck and Congratulation!

well they can hurt if that is the question but what they will lack is the essentials for pregnant women because obviously children don't need extra folic acid try taking folic acid supplement with the Flintstones i got really sick off min so i made a smoothie and dropped the pill in the blender with the fruit it didn't affect the taste to much and it stayed down
