I am supposed to give a presentation on the detrivore cycle and i cannot find a single thing on the web about it. If anyone knows what in the world this cycle is made of please help me by answering.

Thanks

detrivore -- Any organism which obtains most of its nutrients from the detritus in an ecosystem

Detrivores are a category for organisms such as fungi and bacteria. Decomposers are a type of detrivore. Detrivores consume and recycle wastes of organisms and dead organisms (plants and animals).

Detrivores help many cycles including the carbon cycle and the nitrogen cycle...detrivores can also be in the ecosystem cycle?

Basically an animal dies, goes through the detrivore, then the stuff detrivores produce go back into the atmosphere for use again.

Detrivorous animals eat detritus - ie dead and decaying organic matter. Worms, snails, and many types of invertebrates can be classed as detritivores, although I would guess that they are looking for bacteria that are active in the decomposition of organic matter. These bacteria release nitrogen from nitrates found in bodies and are extremely useful - in fact they are essential to the life cycle of life on Earth. Look up 'detrivorous bacteria' - you should get a multitude of results

A detrivore is an organism that feeds on detritus (large bits of dead and decaying organic matter, which is plants, animals, and animal feces, mostly). What detrivores leave behind is used by decomposers, such as mushrooms, decomposer bacteria, etc. Dung beetles, earthworms, crabs, seabirds, woodlice, and dung flies are examples of detrivores.

Wiki is your friend and has what you need.

Type in Detrivore into the Wiki home page.

Look for the "detritivore cycle" (look at the spelling)

A herbivore dies
Detrivores consume it
Produce waste full of nutrients
Waste is cycled into the ground
Plants grow in the nutrient rich soil.
The herbivore feeds on these plants.
The herbivore dies.
etc.
