Have you travelled to Tuweep area of Grand Canyon before? I saw it from nps.gov, it gives best steep view of the canyon, but the road is really tough, I would like to know your personal experience. Can I go there alone by a 2 wheel drive rental car?
And I would like to hike to phantom ranch, do you think it really takes 2 days, and how about the view from the trail?

I have visited grand canyon twice( south, north rim) before, so this time I need some special. Thanks.

Hi, Grand Canyon to Phantom Ranch is the best and most difficult trip I have ever taken. The physical wear on the body is tough. but if you are in good physical condition you will make it. the grade is tremendous and the legs take a beating.

it is definitley a 2 day trip. remember you will need to pack whatever you might need to eat and shelter. no fires and leave no human tracks.

It is by far the most amazing hike that you will ever complete. the changes in the terrain are inspiring. the colors terrific. the
experience, the moments in your life that you will cherish with anyone who will listen!

I went in October of 1996 and again in March of 2002. I would like to try it again soon. In october is was rainy and cloudy with some sun. very muddy trails. in March mostly sunny, very cold at night trails were good. rain gear!

have a terrific time. let me know how it went.

ps for a quicky take bright angel trail . the view is awesome.

As far as Tuweep goes while I haven't been out there I am familiar with those kinds of roads and there is no way that a low ground clearance rental vehicle will make it out there. Until it snows ground clearance is more important than 2x vs 4x But after it snows both will be very important
If memory serves .the road going out there starts somewhere on sr 389 between Fredonia and Colorado City AZ
If you really want to do it , get a Delorme road atlas of AZ because you will definitely have your hands full with all the navigation chores you need to do and a great maps are critical to making it happen
Re: Phantom
Yes it's a two day hike .The S.Kaibab in particular will beat the crap out of your quads on the downhill run .
The uphill run on the BA isn't that bad but one thing that's unique about the Canyon is that you end your day by picking up 1400' in 1.7 miles and if the weather turns to junk you have go uphill into it to ultimately get out of it .
How experienced a hiker are you ?

I've never been to Tuweep, but I have gone to the Phantom Ranch. It will take most of a day to get there on foot. I took the South Kaibab down when I went. Depending on how fit you are, it will take a full day to hike back up. I went up the Bright Angel trail, and it took most of the day. The hardest part was the last few miles, above Indian Gardens. Enjoy your trip!
