Little bits of leaves? inverted teardrop? Forget the name, it's a worm. Never seen one eating anything desireable.

If it's a light brown "paper bag" looking sort of thing, it's probably a little bee's nest.

If it looks like dried mud, it is. They are the nests of mud-dauber wasps.
