I used a friends license plate/tag on my car, and got stopped at a road block and found out it was stolen. I pleaded NO LO, and it shows on BG report as recieving stolen property, possesion of stolen property. I am looking for professional employ. When do I explain to potential employer?

Should I have a letter of explanation at the first interview, cause it will be asked on an application?

First of all, don't ever try to lie about it. Employers don't like that and you will find that people are much more forgiving if you're straight forward from the beginning.

You explain it the way that you just explained it to us. Explain that you did something that was childish and stupid and that you were caught.

You may also want to try and get the record expunged. In some states after a certain amount of time has passed you may be able to get the record expunged that is, of course if you haven't been in any trouble since the last incident and don't have an extensive history of arrests.

In the meantime, tell the truth.

Look into exspongement. Also contact a lawyer about what exactly you can say that will sound good. The background check is only going to have what you were charged with not the details. So the lawyer might tell you just to say you borrowed your friends car and tell you to leave out the part about you using their plates. Also look to professional people you already know, and ask them to write a letter of recommendation, they can even site the incident in the letter, but the letter will be on your behalf. Good luck.
