Palm Springs? Call some local shops in the area and ask what they are paying for qualified bodymen or what their labor rate is per hour...usually figure half of that goes to the tech but shops differ on compensation. A good tech will want jobs where they can beat the book time for a repair or do repair work instead of replacement as a 10 hour repair of a panel might only take them 5-6 hours to do, so they make more money per hour if they are fast and efficient. 5 years ago I was paying 16-18 an hour for top techs in Milwaukee but my really good guys could almost double that rate in being efficient....I usually had em doing 3 or 4 jobs at once to eliminate down time waiting for the painter, mechanical, frame machine or parts....a good tech is really more like an artist or craftsman in his work. Look for a shop that stresses efficiency and has a good attitude at keeping the techs busy being productive rather than waiting for parts or other holdups in the work flow.

A little under $8000 a year.
Only kidding, it depends on the employer. There are no 'set' rates for wages, with the exception being the minimum wage.

With all the dust they breath in, it should be at least $25 an hour to help pay their medical expenses.
