All the forums I've seen on YA... everyone seems to pick Beckett as the easy AL Cy Young canditate...

I'm a Red Sox fan, but I can't overlook how many innings Sabathia ate up with a terrific ERA. I think a lot of the voters will get carried away with the 20 wins, and Beckett will probably get it, but Sabathia had a better year. The Neyer-James predictor is reasonably accurate, but it ignores one important factor, which is that there's a big jump for a lot of voters between 19 and 20 wins that is isn't there from 18 to 19 or 20 to 21.

Numbers wise, Beckett only really beats Sabathia out in wins and that's only by one and losses by just a few. Sabathia's bullpen blew out least four leads that Sabathia left the game with so even if you give C.C. two of those four wins he still beats Beckett in wins. ERA, WHIP and K's go to C.C.
I'm an Indians fan so I will have to admit that I have a bias, but looking at the overall season, I gotta give it to Sabathia in a VERY close race. Great season by both of them.

I've been thinking it was C.C. Sabathia since there was one month left in the regular season. Beckett may have had the most wins, but his ERA is higher than Sabathia, and he's pitched 40 less innings than him.

I would say either Sabathia or Beckett since both lead their teams to the playoffs. Edge to Beckett since he won 20 games and Sabathia did not.

Neither one is head-and-shoulders above the other but Beckett to me is the better pitcher, and will likely go farther in the post-season.

no, its true he pitched more innings and struck out more batters, but the cy young award goes to beckett
