Some days walking for a few hundred yards is a struggle. I walk some, not much, yet my lower back still nags me. I tried ice, alleve, and back belt. It's good but the pain returns. Any advice?

Either Aleve (naproxin sodium) or Motrin (Ibuprofen).

And please use heat on your back--either a heating pad or a nice long soak in the tub with hot water. Also make sure that someone is home with you if you soak in the tub. You could seriously slip if your back decides at that moment it's going to hit you with pain.

regular stretching..yoga when you get brave (there is a back care yoga for beginners workout that is easy and benificial for low back pain) it won't help right now, but it will help prevent future spasms

good luck.

i feel for you. in the uk the latest thinking in the world of physio (physical) therapy is called the spinal stabilisation programme. it entails a regime of exercises custom designed for the individual which you need to do every morning for the rest of time. its actually not that onerous but best of all it works!!! at least for me and my troubles began in 86. check it outand best wishes - js
