I tried to make a corset but the material I chose was not very supportive for me and it tore (saddness, go me and my live for difficult material) I am hoping to make one for my wedding dress but am in need of some tips

Silk brocade is a fantastic material. It looks fabulous and is very nearly bulletproof. There are styles out there that fray like mad and you have to watch out for those, but the heavy oriental brocades are fantastic. Upholstery grade velvets and brocades are good too.

Full-weight denim is my preference. If it's not a historical recreation thing, get a tone closest to you own skin tone so it won't shadow through the outer layers.

Did it tear at the seams or at the eyelets? If at the eyelets, did you punch holes for them or just use a smooth awl and then stitch? I recommend using a smooth awl rather than punching, whether the eyelet will be stitched or will be metal reinforced.

try Buckram, if you want something very strong and supportive. it would need to be covered with a nicer fabric as it is a bit coarse. They sometimes use it in the hems of wedding dresses to keep the shape.

you want a tightly woven cotton.

reinforce the seams, grommets, etc.
