I've noticed the same thing. However, I like to make ppl feel better when they are feeling bad...and try to give any words of encouragement to help them feel better.

This question could look superficial to those who haven't been there, or dealt with those who were, or are.
A person has to be in a place where there is a belief that doing something will make a difference and that any of it matters.
Even those of us who are lucky enough not to be clinically depressed, sometimes get so beaten down by repeated negative experiences, usually caused by unsuspected delusions, that it doesn't seem that anything really will make a difference, or have even given up hope. I
It does no good to think, "Well, if they are going to give up hope, that's their tough luck."
It cost 43,000 dollars a year to go to Harvard, and 43,000 dollars a year to keep someone in prison. 'Nuff said.

Excellent question, I don't know most likely it is because those people are insecure, have low self esteem themselves and it makes them feel better about themselves somehow for a little while at least...

Well, you said it; it's a vicious cycle! We need to do something to makes us feel good about ourselves, so we can be proud and improve our own image. But, if we have such low self esteem most likely will do nothing about it and just grind on it....it's the nature of the beast...I guess.

I always do something that cheers me up when I am depressed and down. It's not healthy to feel that way a lot. But some people either don't know how to get out of it or just enjoy wallowing in self pity

I think that`s a form of emotional bullying. In truth you often get those who can only make themselves feel better by making others feel worse.........

If only I had an answer for that question there would be so many more people who did not have to beat themselves up over it.

What really annoys me is when the "beautiful model types" critisize themselves knowing they look good. People who say, oh im so ugly/fat just to get positive attention and compliments.

A person's own insecurity can cause her/him to want to bring someone else lower. This does more harm than good to both persons & is mean-spirited.
