I don't know if you got your answer but I went to michaels and bought wood stakes(.89 cents each), foam board(2.49), they also have these fun halloween wood cutouts in shapes like a ghost or a cat...they have no detail or paint it's just a cut out but I am attaching then to the tombstones for more detail(.25 cents each) and spray paint(at walmart for .96 cents each can). I cut two tombstones out of one piece of foam board. then I attached the stake to the back of board. The I cut two holes next to the wood and threaded floral wire thru til it was sturdy. then i painted it with spray paint in grey, then added some black spray paint for some detail. With a black marker I wrote on it. It's really simple, and cheap. i made 6 tombstones for $18.00 and some tax. the best part is that the foam board will dry super fast, and when your done all you have to do is stick them in the ground.

styrofoam or cardboard would probably be the best. spray paint might melt the styrofoam, so for that it would be better to use a water based acrylic paint and a brush. use a sponge with darker gray paint on the entire thing to give it a texture like granite.

Use styrofoam pieces from Home Depot or recycling.
Cover them with patching plaster or latex paint.
You may get a discard/mis-match paint same places.

Styrofoam! Cut them out an dtake out little chunks so they look old. Black and grat spraypaint (and green if you add grass to the bottom) This always works great!

i've made some out of foamcore board. You can find it pretty cheap at Michael's or a similar craft store. They are sturdy enough to use again next year. They are easily cut with a razor knife. Happy Halloween!!!

I'm making some too. I'm planning on using cardboard, and wrapping wire around wooden stakes and attatching them to the cardboard to stick into the ground.

I agree Styrafoam. If you can't get that then just use shoe boxes and cut cardboard shaped the way you want and paste on both sides.
