It's a pattern recognition phenomenon. Humans recognize things by their pattern. Your brain will immediately try to to fit anything you see or hear into a pattern. That's why people see shapes and pictures in clouds. It why some people swear up and down that there are hidden messages in some songs.
You're alone. You hear a sound. You try to fit it into a pattern. Your name is a pattern well known to you. You make the sound fit the pattern of your name.
It would be more rare to see how many people have never heard their name when alone.

Yup! The creepiest experience was when my grandma died, I heard her voice calling my name while im watching TV. I wasn't scared, as the matter of fact, I cried.

Yeah... then they start talking in some other language i don't understand..... ???? I've talked to my Dr but she thinks it's just stress..... ??? I dunno... Cuz another voice has started translating for me.... hmmmm.... You think I should slap my boss around??? Cuz these people sure do...... I'M SO CONFUSED!
