My baby is 5 months old next week and has started turning herself onto her tummy at night. She can only turn one way at the moment so can't turn herself back onto her back yet. Im alittle worried about SIDS but did read somewhere that once they start turning the risk goes down. Is this when they can turn over onto tum and back onto back again or just onto tum. I keep turning her back but she likes to sleep on her tum!

Have you tried getting one of those wedges? My son is 4 1/2 months and I put one of those in his crib. It has a heartbeat sound and he loves it!! It's also elevated so when he's congested he can breathe easier.

His favorite way to sleep is on his tummy though. I only let him sleep like that when I am awake and can keep an eye on him.

Your baby is strong enough to protect herself against sids. I think too it may also be a genetic factor and not totally environmental factors of the crib.
My 2nd son loved to sleep on his tummy since day one and was strong enough so we let him and he is ok. My 3rd child also slept on her tummy as soon as she could get in that position. I personally like that they sllep on their side just so if they spit up it has some where to go.

My kids liked to sleep on their tummy's too. Once they start rolling over, it is really hard to make them sleep on their backs. I just usually would go in right before I went to bed and put them back on their backs, but there really isn't much else you can do. I know that they say babies should sleep on their back, but several years ago they used to tell you to be sure and have them sleep on their stomach. Once the baby starts rolling over you can pretty much let them sleep however they want to sleep.

Once she can roll over, you don't need to worry. If you aren't waking her up when you roll her back, then go for it. If you are waking her up, then I'd stop doing it. Once she can roll, then she has enough muscles to control herself better, and truly she should be okay. Goodluck

your baby is at more risk of dying by being on its back due to it can spit up and drown in it and some babies have trouble with the flap on their larynx closing by being on their backs .... my son sleeps on his belly and has started rolling over on his back to play and then gets to screaming wanting rolled back over .. your baby is fine .......
