The Tudors were a Welsh family. Owen Tudor was a servant to Queen Katherine Valois who was the widow of Henry V. Owen and Katherine married secretly and had at least three sons, who were the half brothers of Henry VI. England was then plunged into a civil war which in which the Yorkists overthrew the King. Owen and Katherine's eldest son Edmund married Margaret Beaufort, a descendent of John of Gaunt, the third son of Edward the Third and it was their son Henry, who defeated the Yorkist Richard III in 1485 to become Henry VII and the father of Henry VIII.

They didn't rule Britain, they ruled England and Wales. In the 16th century, Britain was just a geographical expression, not a country.
