I'm asking for your opinions and not for thrashing of somebody else's team. That means Austin N is allowed to say USC and we can all laugh, but let everybody voice their opinion.

Mine: Alabama (Duh)
More bowl appearances, victories than anybody else.
A plethora of National Titles (12).
Member of arguably the greatest rivalry in all of sports.
Involved in some of the most legendary plays of all time.
Bart Starr, Ken Stabler, Joe Nameth, just to nameth a few...
Tyrone Prothro's catch is still the feature play during Pontiac's game changing performance.
Wallace Wade
Frank Thomas
Paul Bryant
Gene Stallings
"I'd like for the people to remember me as a winner, cause I ain't never been nothin' but a winner."

Maybe I should define tradition a little better...
It helps to have won a National Championship before 1990 to be in a list of "greatest tradition"
What about schools like Army, Harvard, Yale, Minnesota, Tennessee? They have way more National Titles than many of the recent powerhouses...

I must also add that despite Michigan having the "most all-time bowl appearances" with 31 (actually, it's 38 with a record of 18-20), Alabama has an all time bowl record of 30-21-3, which suggests 54 bowl appearances.

I can appreciate Alabama, I am a Paul Bear Bryant fan for life, but don't diss my team.

Can you say THE TROPHY
Mike Garrett, Marcus Allen, Carson Palmer, Reggie Bush, Matt Lienart, O.J. Simpson All winners of the TROPHY

Did Joe Willie win the TROPHY? I am asking because I do not know

Coaches John Robinson, Pete Carroll, John McKay

I can remeber when I was stationed at Ft. Rucker, Ala USC had scheduled to play Alabama. The military from Ft Rucker that were from California decided to charter a bus to see this game.

Alabama did not have any black players at the time, this was in the middle 60's

Well USC won the game by a large margin. We had a black running back by the name of Sam Cunningham, who ran wild for 6 TD's.

It is told by the media and others that Bear Bryant came to the locker room of USC and asked if Sam and the Coach John Mckay could come to the Tide's locker room.

Upon arrival it is said that Bryant told his team looking at Sam Cunningham "This is what a football player look like"

The next year Alabama started recruiting black players from Alabama and not let them get out of the state to northern and western states.

I can not vouch for this story, but Mckay said it was true and in his book Sam "Bam" Cunninham said it was true.

This is a good argument that will never be proven by anyone.

Everyone has a team they are proud of for reasons that make them fans

#1 they attended the school

#2 they had a parent that attended the school

#3 they like the school colors or mascot

#4 they live in the area and support the local team

I hope this will be of some use to you, good luck.

OSU has 7 heismans and their share of national titles. They also have one of if not the first black all american. As for coaches they have Woody hayes, wes fesler, and paul brown(one of the inventors of the west coast offense.) They have had 2 offensive lineman finish in the top 5 in heisman voting. Pretty sure no other school can claim that.
That is my homer answer. In reality you could say Alabama, Texas, ND, USC, Michigan, Nebraska or Oklahoma(along with OSU) or maybe a couple other schools. The only one with a slight edge, would be ND, I think.

*and you are correct to mention Army and Navy. While they are a punchline right now....in the day they were two of the best teams in football. As an Irish fan I am ashamed I omitted them, since our playing them goes althe way back to the 40s at least....back when army was undefeated.

The answer to this question is
A) Notre Dame and A) Michigan. Without question. I do not root for either team. Actually I root against them every week unless they are playing the buckeyes.
