YES!!! I can't believe that a movie could be that bad! I mean wow. Plus it was a remake...at least the one I saw. Why would anyone want to make that movie twice I mean the story was terrible. Poor Nicolas Cage...is career was not helped by that awful excuse for "entertainment".

Watch the original! It is so much better even though it follows some of what the second film has. The original has a much better cast, a more-isolated and picturesque location, more details about their counterculture based on ancient ways, and an excellent cast. It seems more pagan and primitive in the original film. Christopher Lee is amazing as Lord Summerisle! Edward Woodward is a million times better than Nicolas Cage, who was completely wrong for the part! I was aghast at what they did to this eerie, scary, creepy ghastly story~ghastly in a good way, that is.
If you do watch the original, be aware that they used a body double in the dancing sequence. That's NOT Britt Ekland. They didn't tell her they planned to shoot the scene that way, so now those who see the film are certain it's her. Poor lady...
Here's information about the 1973 original:

For an extra treat, find a copy of the novelization by Anthony Shafer, which is supposedly based on another novel, one I've never found. Someday, I'll track it down.
No, it wasn't the stupidest movie in the world. Save that for Adam Sandler/Will Ferrell/Chris Rock-type movies. It was a poorly done remake.

The original HAD a plot, the remake was another of the franken remakes.. (I.E: they used several old films and mushed them together using the name of only one.) In this case they used the original wicker man and tossed in the old movie The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (an old Bette Davis one).. the plot no longer makes any sense since the movies were subtly different.. they basically took scenes out of both and recreated them, making the story ill defined.. Don't judge the original on the remake..

My boyfriend and I just kind of frowned throughout the entire film. We did have fun with it though; I told him he'd be like one of the men on the island if he didn't obey me. Overall though, it was a waste of time, very predictable, silly.
