ive recently tried to use a dedicated dvi cable running from my ati 1900xt card to a dvi input on a monitor,ive got picture,but its got a covering of sparklies(dots) randomly over the screen,everything runs fine and 'underneath' the image seems ok,at the mo im using a standard vga lead with a dvi adaptor at one end(card) and also reverting back to a vga input monitor,all runs perfect like this,any dvi settings to be made? or quality of cable?

The times I have seen this, once was the quality of the cable at a high pixel rate, the other time was first thought to be the quality of the cable as some cables worked and others did not, but it turned out to be the quality of the signal drivers on the video card.

If it is a cheap DVI cable then try replacing the cable with one that has better quality.

Lowering the resolution will probably fix it. If you are over 60 Hz refresh rate then drop it to 60 Hz.

Make sure that the cable is not routed near a noise source, or wrapped up in other poorly shielded cables.

Dvi and hdmi are the same quality the only difference is that hdmi is capable of having sound too. Well dvi-d idk about dvi-a
