What Operating System is currently on the computer?
-Before starting, I would make sure you have all the XP drivers necessary for any devices on the system.
Then you will need to make sure you have a 'full install' CD for XP. If you have this, then you should be able to boot from it and it will allow you to delete the partition that contains the current operating system. BE CAREFUL: many preinstalled computers have a compressed recovery partition and I wouldn't recommend deleting that. You should be able to do the following from the XP setup program: delete the current OS partition, create a new partition, and select this partition to install XP

If memory serves, that PC is too old (Pentium2 / 64MB RAM?) to run XP.

Minimum hardware requirements are: Pentium 3 processor @ 500 MHZ and 256MB RAM

Your's isn't even close.
